Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Luqa at 0700LT to proceed with a check of the fleet based at Taranto Airport. While approaching Catania at an altitude of 10,000 feet, the bomber was shot down by the pilot of a Macchi M.C. 200 and crashed in the Mediterranea Sea off the Sicily coast. All three crew members were killed.

While taking off from the harbor of Stranrear, the floatplane went out of control and crashed into the bay. Two crew members were killed and seven others were injured. The airplane was engaged in a maritime patrol flight over the North Sea on behalf of the 209th Squadron. Those killed were Sgt William George Evans (air gunner) and AC1 Thomas Middlebrook.

During the patrol, weather conditions deteriorated and the crew encountered storm. The pilot apparently lost control of the airplane that dove into the ground and crashed in a field located in Elton, southwest of Peterborough. Two crew members were killed and a third was injured.
