The crew was completing a local training sortie at RAF Netheravon when the airplane crashed in unknown circumstances near the airbase. The pilot was killed and the observer was seriously injured. He died the next day from injuries sustained.

Circumstances:
The crew departed RAF Horsham St Faith (Norwich) on a training exercise. While cruising at an altitude of 3,000 feet just below the cloud base, the airplane collided with a RAF Beaufighter registered R2056. Both airplanes dove into the ground and crashed in Thrapston. The observer was killed while the pilot bailed out and was injured. The pilot of the Beaufighter was also injured.

The crew departed RAF Upwood on a navigation exercise. En route, one of the engine failed due to fuel starvation and the crew diverted to RAF Sutton Bridge. On short final, the undercarriage collided with a raised bank and was torn off. The airplane crash landed and was damaged beyond repair. All three crew members were injured.

Probable cause:

Circumstances:
The pilot was completing a local night solo training exercise at RAF Church Fenton. On final, the airplane was too low and misaligned with the runway so the pilot initiated a go around procedure. Few minutes later, on a second attempt to land, at a height of about 100 feet, the airplane stalled and crashed near the boundary fence. The airplane was destroyed and the pilot was killed.

It was found that a number of twigs were jammed in the starboard aileron and it was presumed that the airplane had probably struck a tree during the first attempt to land.
