The pilot departed RAF Waddington on a solo training exercise. En route, weather conditions deteriorated and the pilot was instructed to bail out. He abandoned the airplane that entered a dive and crashed west of RAF Fulbeck. The pilot was uninjured.
Probable cause:
Aircraft abandoned due to poor weather conditions.

The crew was completing a training exercise out from RAF Waddington when he was forced to make an emergency landing for unknown reasons. The airplane crash landed in East Grinstead, ran into a hedge and came to rest. There were no injuries among the crew.

The airplane departed RAF Waddington at 1835LT on September 15 on an operation to Hamburg. While returning to base the following night, it clipped trees and crashed on approach to base. Two crew members were killed and two others were injured.

While in the approach circuit to RAF Waddington, the airplane went out of control and crashed in a huge explosion in a field located few km from the airbase. All 10 occupants were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Waddington in the evening of September 7 on an operation to Berlin. At 2355LT, whilst outbound over the North Sea, it was damaged by a German fighter. The crew managed to reach Wilhelmshaven, where the bomb load was jettisoned, before turning for home. It subsequently force-landed on Ameland Island. All six crew members became PoW.

While over the target, the port engine failed and after struggling to return to base on one engine, the Hampden was abandoned at 02345LT near Dorking. It is believed that Sgt Stephens failed to leave the aircraft as his body was found close to the wreckage.
