When it arrived over RAF Coltishall, it encountered poor visibility and circled for the next 30 minutes, before an engine failed, necessitating an immediate landing. In doing so, the airplane crash landed in a field, seriously injuring at least one airman.

Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Waddington in the evening of August 20 on an operation to Bremen. While cruising at night off the British coast, the aircraft went out of control and crashed in unknown circumstances into the sea some 18 miles off Great Yarmouth. The body of P/O MacDonald was found few days later on a beach in France but no trace of the rest of the crew was ever found.

The pilot departed RAF Waddington on a solo training exercise. En route, weather conditions deteriorated and the pilot was instructed to bail out. He abandoned the airplane that entered a dive and crashed east of RAF Fulbeck. The pilot was uninjured.
