Circumstances:
On final approach to Los Ángeles-María Dolores Airport at dusk, the pilot failed to realize his altitude was insufficient. On short final, the airplane impacted trees and crashed in a wooded area, bursting into flames. The wreckage was found 412 metres short of runway 18. The pilot, sole on board, was killed. The accident occurred 19 minutes after sunset.
Probable cause:
Impact with trees on short final while completing a visual approach to runway 18. The approach was unstable, which was considered as a contributing factor.
