Leeming AFB

The airplane departed RAF Leeming at 2047LT on September 11 on an operation to Warnemünde. Last heard on w/t indicating the crew were preparing to ditch some 80 miles off the east coast. No trace of the crew nor the airplane was ever found.

The airplane departed RAF Leeming at 2000LT on September 6 on an operation to Hüls. It was damaged by a German fighter and crash landed near Cromer while trying to return to base. All five crew members were rescued.

The airplane departed RAF Leeming at 2004LT on September 6 on an operation to Hüls (chemical factory). While returning to base the following night, it was shot down by a Me.110 and crashed in Quakenbrück. All five crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Leeming at 1949LT on an operation to Hüls. Passing over the Netherlands, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed on an artillery practice range operated by the Wehrmacht near Oldebroek. All five crew members were killed.

While on a test flight out from RAF Leeming, the crew encountered poor visibility, got lost and diverted to RAF Acklington. Ready to return to base, the airplane took off but flew into high tension cables, crashed and burst into flames. Three crew members were killed and a fourth was seriously injured.

The airplane departed RAF Leeming at 2002LT on August 22 on an operation to Le Havre. While returning to base the following night, the airplane impacted the slope of Widdale Fell (2,031 feet) located 2 miles northeast of Dent. Both pilots were killed and three others were injured.
