The three engine airplane was engaged in a espionage and surveillance mission of the Luxeuil Airbase. In the early morning, the airplane was shot down by the pilots of five French fighters and crashed in a field located in Meurcourt, some 8 km west of Luxeuil Airfield. All nine occupants were killed. It was reported that the airplane deviated to the west from the Rhein due to unfavarable winds.

Shot down by French fighters.

Circumstances:
The three engine aircraft named 'Sanjurjo' departed Tetouan Airport at 0800LT on a flight to Alicante with an intermediate stop in Seville. About 15 minutes later, while cruising along the shore at an altitude of 1,500 feet, the airplane entered an uncontrolled descent and crashed in flames into the sea off Ceuta. Rescuers arrived on site 30 minutes later. Some debris were found 10 km south of Punta del Carnero. All nine occupants were killed.

Probable cause:
The exact cause of the accident remains unknown. At the time of the accident, weather conditions were poor with low clouds and storms. It was also reported that the airplane may have been shot down by the pilot of an RAF fighter.

The three engine airplane was completing a flight from Rome to Berlin with intermediate stops in Venice and Munich, carrying 17 passengers and a crew of four. The aircraft departed Munich-Riem Airport at 1300LT bound for Berlin. A little more than an hour into the flight, while cruising at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the crew encountered poor weather conditions with low clouds when the aircraft crashed on the slope of Mt Grosser Arber located 48 km northeast of Straubing. Five passengers were killed while 16 other occupants were injured.
