Scampton AFB

The airplane departed RAF Scampton in the evening of August 24 on an operation to Düsseldorf. While returning to base the following night, it was approaching the airfield when it collided with a second RAF Hampden registered X3121. Both aircraft dove into the ground and crashed northeast of the airbase, near the village of Hackthorn. All eight crew members in both airplanes were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2030LT on August 24 on an operation to Wesel. Following an uneventful mission, the crew returned to base where he landed at 0225LT. A few minutes later, an explosion occurred and the Hampden burst into flames. In addition to the crew, four members of the ground staff died in the explosion, caused, it is believed, by a bomb falling from the airplane as the bomb-doors were opened for an inspection of the bay.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2110LT on August 19 on an operation to Kiel. The following night, while returning to base, it crashed in unknown circumstances some six miles east of Bridlington. All four crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2145LT on August 17 on an operation to Bremen. While returning to base the following morning, it was ditched in the sea off Holy Island. All four crew members were rescued by a local patrol boat.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2058LT on August 14 on an operation to Braunschweig. While returning to base the following night, it overshot the runway and crashed. All four crew members were rescued. At the time of the accident, the visibility was poor and this was a contributory factor.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2110LT on August 14 on an operation to Braunschweig. It was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Pattensen. All four crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2020LT on August 13 on a training exercise. At 0040LT, it impacted trees and crashed in Badsey, two miles east of Evesham. Two crew members were killed and a third was injured.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2330LT on August 7 on an operation to Essen. The following night, while passing over the Netherlands, it crashed in unknown circumstances into the sea off Terschelling. All four crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2225LT on July 25 on an operation to Hanover. While returning to base the following morning, it crashed on approach and came to rest 2 km short of the airfield. All four crew members were rescued.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 2205LT on July 25 on an operation to Hanover. Passing over the Netherlands, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed on the island of Schiermonnikoog. Three crew members were killed and a fourth became PoW.
