Circumstances:
Shortly after a night takeoff from RAF Great Massingham, the airplane collided with power cables and crashed west of the airfield. All three crew members were seriously injured. Sgt Lusty died the following day from injuries sustained.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell on an operation to Merseburg. While returning to base, it ran out of fuel and was abandoned by the crew and crashed near RAF Great Massingham. A crew was killed and three others were uninjured.
