About 12 minutes after takeoff from Maracaibo-La Chinita Airport, while flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet, the twin engine airplane entered an uncontrolled descent and crashed into Lake Maracaibo. The airplane disintegrated on impact and all 8 occupants were killed. The flight was en route to Porlamar-Del Caribe-General en Jefe Santiago Mariño Airport when the accident occurred.

Shot down by the Venezuelan Authorities who suspected an illegal flight.

Puerto Ayacucho Airport is named Cacique Aramare but the military side is named José Antonio Páez.

While approaching Charallave-Óscar Machado Zuloaga Airport, the crew encountered technical problems (apparently with the reversers) and declared an emergency. The captain initiated a go around procedure and completed a circuit south of the airport. During a second approach, the airplane deviated from the approach path to the south and continued until it impacted the top of a hill located 8 km south of the airport. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and a post crash fire and all six occupants were killed, among them Christian Toni, President of the Estudiantes de Mérida football club.

Shortly after takeoff from Maturín-General José Tadeo Monagas Airport, while in initial climb, the engine failed. The pilot attempted an emergency when the airplane lost height, impacted trees and a concrete wall before coming to rest against a tree in a garden. The pilot was seriously injured.
Probable cause:
It was determined that the engine failed because the fuel was contaminated with a high amount of water. The malfunction of the engine regulator accessories was considered as a contributing factor.

It was pursued by F-16 fighters over the Lake of Maracaibo until it crashed in unknown circumstances in the Jesús María Semprún municipality. There was no fire and no casualties apparently. The aircraft was destroyed.
