Frank Mase, pilot and owner of the aircraft, was taking part to a rally from England to New Zealand. While flying at low altitude near Roanne, the aircraft impacted a tree and crashed in a field. While the pilot was injured, the aircraft named 'The All Black' was damaged beyond repair.

The crew departed Hamble on a test flight on this first example of the Spartan series. En route, the crew encountered an unexpected situation and was forced to attempt an emergency landing. The aircraft crash landed in St. Martins, near Farnham. While both occupants evacuated safely, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
