The crew was completing a private flight out from Cramlington Airport. En route, the engine failed, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency landing in an open field located in Blyth. The aircraft named 'Novacastria' was damaged beyond repair and both occupants were injured.
Probable cause:
Water in the fuel system was found to be a contributory factor to the engine stopping.

This De Havilland DH.60G Gipsy Moth was the second owned by the Prince Jean Ghica, in replacement of the first DH.60 also registered CV-TUR that crashed on delivery on 10JUL1930 (c/n 1269). While flying at a height of 3,000 feet on approach to Bucharest-Băneasa Airport, the aircraft went out of control, spiraled to the ground and crashed. The passenger was killed and the pilot Prince Jean Ghica was seriously injured.

Shortly after takeoff from RAF Tangmere, outbound for RAF Uxbridge, the airplane collided with an RAF Armstrong Whitworth Siskin registered J8893. While the pilot of the Siskin was able to land, the Moth entered an uncontrolled descent and crashed in the Seahurst Park near Chichester. Both occupants were killed.
