North Sea

The airplane departed RAF Waterbeach at 1727LT on an operation to Emden. While returning to base, it is believed that it crashed somewhere in the North Sea. No trace was found.

While engaged in a maritime patrol flight, the airplane crashed in unknown circumstances somewhere in the North Sea. Lost without trace.

The airplane departed RAF Coningsby at 1320LT on an air sea rescue operation to search for crew reported missing from the previous night operations. The aircraft was last seen around 1600LT and failed to return to base. No trace was ever found.

The airplane departed Aberdeen-Dyce airport to escort one Sunderland, two Catalina and HMS Rubis. While flying at low height, it suffered an engine failure and crashed into the sea. All three crew members were killed.

In response to a request for a bearing, the necessary information was transmitted at 0642LT, at which time the Whitley was believed to be nearly 100 km north of Borkum and on course for the east coast. No trace was found.
