On approach to RAF Bovingdon, the aircraft became unstable and the captain was forced to attempt an emergency landing. The aircraft crash landed in a field located in Studham, about 11 km north of the airbase. While all five occupants were unhurt, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair. It was completing a cargo flight from Valencia, Spain, with a load of apricots.
Probable cause:
It is believed that the loss of control on approach was caused by the cargo that shifted, causing the CofG to move, necessitating an emergency landing.

Circumstances:
Following a wrong approach configuration, the aircraft landed very hard. After being parked on apron, the technician proceeded to a complete inspection which revealed that the fuselage was buckled. The aircraft was declared as damaged beyond economical repair.
Probable cause:
Wrong approach configuration on part of the crew who failed to follow the published approach procedure and failed to complete a correct flare, causing the aircraft to land hard.

The three engine airplane departed Valencia, Spain, on a cargo flight to Paris, carrying two passengers, two crew members and a load of gold. En route, the crew decided to make an intermediate stop at an airport located in Aude, probably Carcassonne. After touchdown, the airplane suffered a gear collapse. It veered off runway and came to rest. All four occupants evacuated safely and the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.

The airplane was engaged in a world tour organized by the Italian Air Force (Regia Aeronautica) under the command of the General Italo Balbo. While cruising along the Spanish coast, the crew encountered an unexpected situation and was forced to ditch the airplane that crashed in unknown circumstances about 5 km off the Pinedo Beach in Valencia. All six occupants were rescued, among them General Valle was slightly injured.
