Shortly after takeoff from RAF Hemswell, the airplane encountered difficulties to gain height. It collided with a cottage and crashed, bursting into flames. All four crew members were killed while there were no injuries among the occupants of the cottage.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell on a mine laying sortie in the Elbe estuary. It is believed that the airplane was lost in sea off Cuxhaven while cruising at night. No trace of the aircraft nor the four crew members was found.

Circumstances:
The twin engine airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 2018LT on March 7 on a patrol flight with a crew of four on board. On final approach to Digby Airport, while completing a last turn, the airplane went out of control and crashed. All four crew members were killed. Evidence suggests the crew has been engaged by the enemy as LAC Wood's body had sustained gun shot wounds.

On a night approach to RAF Finningley, one of the engine failed. The pilot initiated a go around when the airplane rolled to left, causing the left wing to struck the ground. The undercarriage were torn off and the airplane crashed. All three crew members evacuated safely and the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.

After landing at Doncaster Airfield, the pilot inadvertently taxied the aircraft on cinders which caused the undercarriage to collapse. As the cinders were still hot, the airplane caught fire and was destroyed. All four crew members evacuated safely.
