The airplane departed RAF Marham at 1840LT on an operation to Billancourt. As it was landing at 2255LT, a bomb which had hung up fell from the airplane and exploded. The airplane was destroyed and all seven crew members were injured. Later, two of the survivors died from injuries sustained.

Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Wyton at 2337LT on February 25 on an operation to Kiel. While returning to base the following night, the airplane went off course. Due to lack of fuel, the crew diverted to RAF Mildenhall but the engine failed on approach. It crash landed in a field and came to rest against a stone wall, about 200 yards from the airbase. Seven crew members escaped uninjured while the front gunner was killed.

Prior to these encounters, the Stirling had been coned in searchlights and was forced down to 3,000 feet before escaping from the beams. While returning to base in the evening, it crashed upon landing and was destroyed. Three crew members were injured.

The airplane departed RAF Mildenhall at 1823LT on January 15 an operation to Hamburg. It experienced an engine failure over the target area and on return, the crew met very poor visibility. Due to fuel exhaustion, the captain ordered his crew to bail out and later attempted an emergency landing when the airplane crash landed one mile southwest of Anston and was written off. All eight crew members escaped uninjured.
