During the takeoff roll from Las Vegas-McCarran Airport runway 07L, a catastrophic failure occurred on the left engine. The crew immediately abandoned the takeoff, completed an emergency braking procedure and was able to stop the aircraft after an estimated course of 800 meters. A fire erupted on the left side of the aircraft, destroying the left engine, a part of the left wing and fuselage. All 170 occupants were able to leave the aircraft and 13 people were slightly injured during the evacuation. The aircraft was badly damaged by fire and will be repaired and probably return into service in early 2016. Its is believed that the left engine (General Electric GE90-85B) failed at a speed of 78 knots.
