Circumstances:
With a second Piaggio P.166 registered ZS-NJX, ZU-MMI was leaving Tzaneen-Limpopo Airport for Rand Airport near Johannesburg after taking part to an airshow. Few minutes after takeoff, while cruising at 1,570 metres, both aircraft hit Mamotswiri Peak located 32 km southwest from Tzaneen. SAR found debris and arrived on the scene two days later, in the morning of 16AUG2011. All thirteen occupants on both aircraft were killed. Authorities confirmed the accident was not caused by a midair collision and none of the pilots sent a distress call prior to the crash. At the time of the accident, Mamotswiri Peak was shrouded by clouds and both aircraft crashed 35 metres from the top.
