Circumstances:
Crew was performing a nonstop flight from England to South Africa and the Royal Air Force ordered this Fairey Long Range Monoplane to establish a new record. Aircraft left Cranwell Airbase in the morning bound to the south. While overflying Tunisia by night, the crew did not realize his altitude was too low and did not distinguish the presence of the mountains (Djebel Zaghouan). Around 2240LT, the aircraft hit a mountain slop southwest of Zaghouan and was destroyed. Both occupants were killed.
