Circumstances:
Aircraft was performing a special flight from Croydon to Newcastle to follow the Kings Cup Air Race. En route, while cruising over Durham County, crew encountered poor weather conditions and low visibility due to fog. Pilot was unable to localize the destination so he decided to make an emergency landing in an open field. On landing, aircraft hit a ditch and came to rest in several trees. While all 7 occupants were unhurt, aircraft was considered as damaged beyond repair.
