Circumstances:
On approach to Aalborg, crew experienced technical problem with the right main landing gear which did not extended correctly. Pilots decided to perform an emergency landing. On touch down, the right main landing gear broke off, the aircraft veered off runway on its right and came to rest. A propeller blade went into the cabin and seven people were injured. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
Causes:
It appears that, due to severe corrosion of the threaded connection between the right main landing gear retraction/extension actuator piston rod and rod end, the separation of the actuator piston rod and rod end caused the malfunctioning of the right main landing gear. There were no specified inspection tasks for inspection of the main landing gear retraction/extension actuator and rod end either in the MRB's report or in the Maintenance Requirement Manual in so far as "L", "A" and "C" checks.
