Circumstances:
The crew left RAF Waddington in the evening of August 12 on a bombing mission over Berlin. While flying over The Netherlands by night, the aircraft was shot down by the pilot of a German fighter and crashed in a field located in Slochteren, some 16 km east of Groningen. All six crew members were killed.
