Vickers 416 Wellington IC

The airplane departed RAF East Wretham at 2129LT on November 15 on an operation to Kiel. While returning to base the following night, it passed over the north of England and crashed in the Irish Sea some 20 miles southwest of Saint Bees. Two crew members were rescued and four others were killed.

While approaching the Dutch coast, it was probably shot down by the German Marine Flak and crashed into the North Sea off Terschelling. The last message got by the crew was at 2120LT, some 27 minutes prior to the accident. It was confirmed on December 21 that the aircraft was shot down.
